Star Building Services started in September 2008 with two people in Houston: Angelica Catano and Juan Gonzalez. Eighteen years later, the company they built cleans over 2.5 million square feet of commercial and industrial space every day across Houston and Dallas. Our client roster includes five-star Michelin restaurants, Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston Country Club, Meow Wolf Museum, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. NASA and Houston Zoo restaurants have trusted Star with their facilities in prior years. But the people who show up to those buildings, the standards we hold them to, and the reason our clients stay with us for years: that operating philosophy has not changed since day one.

How Star Building Services Started
Star Building Services was founded in Houston in September 2008 by Angelica Catano and Juan Gonzalez. A Latina-founded facility service company that started with a handful of local accounts and one clear operating philosophy: run every contract as if the customer will be watching every shift. Within a few years the company was certified by the City of Houston as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Small Business Enterprise (SBE), and Historically Underutilized Business (HUB). Those certifications matter for a specific reason. They signal that Star operates under active third-party accountability from the City of Houston, not just internal standards.
The company grew from local Houston janitorial work into a two-hub Texas operation. The Houston headquarters at 1717 Gessner Road remains the primary hub. The Dallas presence, headquartered in Farmers Branch at 11410 Mathis Ave, Unit C4, opened as the second hub as demand across the DFW Metroplex grew. Coverage expansion into San Antonio and Austin is planned as portfolio capacity allows.

What We Stand For
Our mission has held steady for 18 years: deliver exceptional janitorial and facility maintenance services that exceed what a client actually expects, built on quality, sustainability, integrity, and well-being. Those are not abstract values. They translate into specific weekly decisions: what cleaning products we buy, how we schedule staff, what we do when a customer flags a problem at 9pm on a Sunday, and how we hold supervisors accountable across a growing Texas footprint.
Quality shows up in our three-layer inspection structure, detailed below. Sustainability shows up in the eco-friendly cleaning products we default to when the client allows it, and in the training we do on responsible chemical use. Integrity shows up in the 24/7 client support line that a human actually answers. Well-being shows up in the working conditions we create for the crews who do the work.
The Leadership Team
Star Building Services runs on a small, decisive leadership team. Full bios are on the individual pages linked below.

Angelica Catano
Angelica co-founded Star Building Services in 2008 and runs the company today. Her focus sits at client relationships, brand direction, and the growth planning that took Star from a single Houston operation into a Texas-wide facility service company. She is the primary contact for major accounts and drives the company’s certification and community work.

Juan Gonzalez
Juan co-founded Star in 2008 and continues to shape the operational side of the business. His work centers on scaling delivery quality across a growing account base without breaking what made the original operation work: attention to detail, direct communication, and accountability that reaches every shift.

Viviana Campo
Viviana is a central part of Star’s leadership team. Her role bridges operations, quality control, and account management, the three functions that determine whether a client’s building actually gets cleaned to standard every night.

How Our Structure Keeps Quality Consistent
Most janitorial companies inspect their own work once a month, if at all. We run three separate inspections on every account, every month, by three different people.
The account supervisor does the first pass, on-site, using a defined checklist for the facility type. That inspection covers the work the crews delivered against the scheduled scope.
The quality control lead does the second pass, also on-site, with a stricter eye. Her job is to catch what the supervisor missed and to hold the supervisor accountable, not just the cleaning crew.
The operations manager does the third pass, sometimes announced, sometimes not. This layer catches what both previous inspections missed and creates the feedback loop that keeps standards from drifting month over month.
All three inspections live in our Salesforce-based operations system, where the client account team, the supervisor, and the QC lead can see every finding and every corrective action. Reporting is transparent to the client on request.
For the deeper mechanism behind this structure, see our commercial janitorial cleaning services page.

Beyond the Business: Our Social Work
Star Building Services partners with Life Connection Mission on a water and community project for the Wayuu people in La Guajira, Colombia. The work is not marketing. It is an ongoing commitment to a community that Angelica and Juan have direct ties to, and it reflects what the company was built to be: a business that grows and gives some of what it earns back to communities that need clean water, safe schools, and a real chance at what comes next.
Full details of the project and how our team stays involved are on our social responsibility page.
